Eames Hotrod Boombox Sculpture.....

All I can say is WOW! What a corner conversation piece huh?!!

As an L.A. native, a son of a musician, M11X celebrates his 15th year as a working artist in New York. His latest works blend his musical history and his creative nature. As a designer and artist, he calls on us to forget our individualized nature and relationship with our headphones and demands that we start to share our music as it was meant to be; unplugged from our ears and free. Mi11X’s manifesto blends the iconic image of the boom-box and alters the platform to which music is brought to the masses. M11Xl’s personal relationship to the early 80s  and boom-boxes creates a strong foundation from  which he explores through a collaboration with traditional art mediums. Toying with the power of music and endless design possibilities he brings beats, rhythm, and life into painting, furniture, and mixed media sculpture.

Sofia Ajram....

Montreal based graphic design student Sofia Ajram expresses her dreams, thoughts and fascinations through photography. When asked about her inspirations, she explains: “A great deal of things inspire my work. History, for the most part, sums it up rather well. What has happened, within and without, universally, and what has yet to happen but will be documented by time. That being said, I have never experienced this history firsthand, so the visual aesthetic of my work is due to my lucid dreams and vivid nightmares. I feel as though I need to document them in some way that others may experience what I have seen. [....]That aside, women influence my photos. Women are sexy. Women are seductive, powerful from the core in a wild way that’s virtually inexplicable. I like to document that sexuality.”

She has been shooting ever since she was hired by Truth Explosion Magazine in 2007 as a concert photographer. Her work has been featured in publications such as EnRoute Magazine, Poetic Terrorism, Carpaccio Magazine, C-O-M-A Magazine, Vellum Online, Mossless Magazine, and Antler Magazine, but most of her work is personal work not commissioned at all.

At the moment Sofia’s finishing up her final semester in Graphic Design at Dawson College in Montreal, and going to professionally be in the field in less than a month. Lets hope she doesn’t forget about photography, because her work/art is amazing.

Sandra Suy...

Sandra Suy’s fashion illustrations are all over the internet. If you do a simple search, you’ll see her work featured on blog upon blog. Most of the blogs post one or two of her delicate illustrations, praise Suy’s incredible craft, and then apologize for not having much information about her except for the fact that she lives in Barcelona.
She studied fashion design at Barcelona’s La LLotja–the same art school Picasso studied in–that her career took off after she opened a MySpace page (see, it ain’t just for posting your drunk party pictures) and that she used to work making fabric prints before becoming a successful fashion illustrator. She has done work for many Couture Houses such as Prada, Chanel, Alexander McQueen etc. You can go directly to her website below for more inspiration...

Another Look At Madge's Material Girl!

Actual images have been released from Madonna's Material Girl clothing line for Macy's, and from the looks of it the 80s are back!
But don't go thinking the line was inspired by Madonna's most memorable fashion moments. Iconix Brands executive vice president of merch said the collection "is a nod to the original Material Girl look, but Lola [Leon’s nickname] is part and parcel of making it relevant to today."
Madge also added that her muse, Lourdes, was very involved in the process saying "I really like the way Lola dresses, and I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste."

Dita Von Teese.....

Our hearts go out to burlesque beauty, model, and actress Dita Von Teese, who is suffering the loss of her beloved 16-year-old smooth black and tan girl 'Greta.' Ms. Von Teese revealed the sad news on her Twitter page on August 23rd, writing, "Thank you for all the concerns about my dog Greta. She passed away peacefully at home in my arms yesterday. I miss her more than I can say."

Fiona Paxton Jewelry Line...

I really LOVE these necklaces! I believe Saks Fifth Avenue has them right now, way out of my price range but very beautiful....

Fiona Paxton trained at the Royal College of Art graduating in 1992 with a distinction in textile design. Upon leaving, her dreams quickly became reality spending the next 15 years working in New York, London and Bangkok designing prints and embroideries for various fashion houses and retailers including Michiko Koshino, Chloe, Armani and Moschino. For the last 7 years she was Art Director of a textile design studio creating directional and inspiring riots of pattern, graphics, prints and embroideries, kaleidoscopes of colour and lexicons of creative textile techniques. Whilst working Fiona became more and more inspired by the artisan techniques of the embroidery craftsmen of India. She decided to develop a range of her own jewellery pieces that are all hand embroidered using these ancient techniques. The collection was launched at the beginning of 2008. Each jewellery piece is a tightly patterned beaded mosaic of glistening strands of silver and gold coloured chains and beads. Intricate beadworks create fluid necklaces that drape flat to the body languid and snake like. Living and working in East London inspiration for Fiona Paxton comes from all spheres of life. Street imagery, the flashing images of popular music culture, pattern and decoration from vintage finds and lazy weekends in art galleries.

David Downton...

David Downton has to be one of the most influential people in fashion illustration, he has knockoffs all over Etsy! I'm one of his biggest fans and here is some of his Bio....

David Downton was born in Kent, in the south of England in 1959. He studied at Canterbury ( Foundation year 1977- 1978) and Wolverhampton (BA hons illustration/graphics 1979-1981). In 1984 he moved to Brighton and began his illustration career. For the next 12 years - a period he describes as 'wagging my tail when the phone rang' - he worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from advertising and packaging to illustrating fiction, cook books and, occasionally, fashion.

In 1996, the Financial Times commissioned him to draw at the couture shows and since then David has become known principally as a fashion illustrator. His reports from the shows have been seen internationally, in the US, China, Australia and the Middle East, as well as in almost every leading UK broadsheet and supplement.
David’s commercial client list includes: Tiffany & Co, Bloomingdales, Barney’s, Harrods, Top Shop, Chanel, Dior, L’Oreal, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, V Magazine and the V&A Museum. In 1998, he began working on a portfolio of portraits (from life) of some of the world’s most beautiful women, including Erin O’Connor, Paloma Picasso, Catherine Deneuve, Linda Evangelista, Carmen Dell'Orefice, Iman and Dita Von Teese.

In 2007, David launched Pourquoi Pas? the first ever journal of Fashion Illustration. He is a visiting Professor at London College of Fashion, and in April 2009 received an honory doctorate from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco.

Iceland Unanimously Approves Gay Marriage....

AWESOME!!!

Iceland Legalizes Gay Marriage
Parliament unanimously approves redefinition of marriage

(Newser) – With little fanfare, Iceland's parliament unanimously passed a resolution legalizing gay marriage today, Reuters reports. The Althingi voted 49-0 to add mention of unions between "man and man" and "woman and woman" to the legal definition of marriage. Iceland's tolerance for homosexuality is well known—PM Johanna Sigurdardottir is the only openly gay head of state in the world.

Predominantly Catholic Portugal, which is generally considered more conservative than the Scandinavian countries, legalized gay marriage last month. "The attitude in Iceland is fairly pragmatic," says a University of Iceland political scientist. "Gay marriage has not been a big issue in national politics—it's not been controversial."
