Sweet 16 Dance Party

Disco LightsImage by PhantomMenace via Flickr
My friends stepdaughter is turning sweet 16 today and celebrating with a fun dance party. So of course I volunteered our disco lights that we just so happen to have in our garage ( yes, I was once a raver) and are collecting many layers of dust. Should be alot of fun... I am sure to embarrass my son , because everyone knows old people look stupid dancing when you are a teenager. And according to him I am officially old (39) and it's all downhill from here.

Remember Your Chidlhood Forts You Made

My Space takes you back to your early childhood entertainment consisting of blanket forts. However, the realities of today’s tight apartment living in urban areas doesn’t afford kids the luxury of space. Designer Liya Mairson responded by designing My Space – a clever pop-up playroom for kids aged three up to the young-at-hearts. As a cardboard flat pack which can be stored behind doors or under a bed, My Space unfolds into a playroom equipped with pop-up shelves and cutout windows. The folding mechanism of the walls allows kids to operate on their fantasies by creating spaces around the play area.

Weekend project....

So my husband Ben is pretty awesome! I called my Dad yesterday to get some ideas as to how to construct these frames, and Ben was able to put these together as per my Dad's drawings and instructions. They were not nearly as simple as they look to put together. First we used a 1x2 piece of inexpensive wood for the main frame, then we bought some plexiglass for the backing which was supposed to be easy to cut with a special tool which didn't happen, the plexiglass broke when we used the tool the guy from Lowe's recommended. After discovering we had an extra piece of thin plywood in the garage we (Ben) then moved onto plan B to cut that with the skillsaw and screw that onto the premade main fraims. Now we had to silicone the insides and stain the outside with a redwood color polyurethane for water protection.

Today was weird.....

So we woke up this morning a were headed off to Lowe's to build these frames that I was really excited about for around a fountain that I have. I wanted to create a smaller version of a succulent garden and hang three of these miniture-ized frames around my fountain that desperately needed something besides naked wall surrounding it. My husband was not too happy about being recruited to help with the building process as he said "I am not a carpenter" many times as we were drawing up the frame plans. But alas we made it to the home store and he constructed the frames. Whilst doing so we enjoyed a cold beer and sat in the backyard along with our son Jonah and our two dogs Ruby and Butter. For some reason I looked over at Ruby our Dachshund and she was violently shaking something in her mouth and I knew right away what it was. For some reason the movie Watership Down popped into my head as I ran over and screamed "DROP IT"! As she lay the baby bunny on the ground I swept it up into my arms and saw it's terrified little eye looking up at me, I cradled it and watched as it made the last couple of flinches that a body makes before it's takes in one last breath of life. And that was it the bunny was gone forever, in my arms. Of course my 10 year old son was really angry at our dog for doing exactly what she was bred to do...and that is, hunt badgers and rodents. Unfortunately this mood has somewhat ruined part of a good day having to explain the circle of life and that it's all part of natures plan, even though it completely horrified me to have to wash bunny blood off of my arms. Now I can't stop thinking about the bunny family that misses their baby terribly :(
